Travel from Belfast to Scotland via Ferry

I am taking a trip to Ireland and the UK this summer. We are going to take the ferry over from Belfast to Scotland. I am wandering if we need to purchase the ferry ticket before we go on our trip or wait until we are there? Any suggestions??

You can buy tickets at the terminal, but the best bet as always is getting them in advance. Then you will know which sailing you are on, and can take advantage of any discounts available.
