Has anyone taken a bus from Shannon airport to Kenmare? When I looked it up, it seemed you had to transfer 3 times. A taxi costs $300 and with the return trip- $600 is too much! Still checking it out. Any suggestions?

Public transport in Eire isn’t speedy.
IMHO a car rental is the best way to explore Ireland.
If that’s not an option be prepared for lengthy bus rides.

Two transfers-
51 or #343 Shannon to Limerick, combined frequency every 30 minutes, under 30 minute journey
then #14 every 2 hours Limerick to Killarney, journey time 2 hours
then #270 basically every hour, journey time 40 minutes.
It is probably almost as fast to fly into Dublin, train Dublin to Killarney (change at Mallow on most services- a very efficient and well organised change), then the #270,
or even, the #722 bus Dublin Airport to Killarney 5 times a day, 4 hour journey then #270.
