Travel Apps for Ireland

My last four trips were to France. I have some helpful apps on my phone now for France (next stop Paris, toilets in Paris, SCNF). Time to get rid of those and add some that will help in Ireland. Suggestions please.

Thanks,

Brad

Brad, what is your itinerary? I don't have much for national apps, but I do have some local ones, like, for example, a parking app for Dublin & one for Cork. Maybe we can podge together a few apps covering the most important info you need.

I second Met Éirann. Very useful

I'm flying in and out of Dublin in May, the whole trip is 17 days.

My plan is to spend several days in Dublin, about a five days doing a loop around N. Ireland and the west coast north of Galway. Then another five days to cover things in the south I didn't see last time (Dingle area, Skellig Michael, Cashel).

Originally I was going solo but my girlfriend is going to come for a week. I'm still trying to decide whether to concentrate on north or south for her visit (leaning south right now because it's her first visit to Ireland) and pick up the other sights solo.

I have friends in Leeds so I'm taking a short flight over there for my last weekend to visit them.

Something to check whether ferries to Skellig Michael and/or Inishmore are running would be really good. Those are both things I'd like to include in my trip. I can make my schedule flexible enough to work around a stormy day or two, preferably without going all the way there before knowing whether the ferries are running.

I think the National Trust app is worth adding for N. Ireland. Is there something similar for the Republic?

Hi, Brad! Haven't forgotten you! :)

Had a visit with my goddaughter who's attending NUI Galway. She said An Taisce, which is akin to the National Trust, doesn't have an app. Their website is pretty good, though, and worth keeping earmarked. She said that she follows a bunch of hill-walking groups on twitter, so if hiking is on your itinerary, I can get details on those if you'd like.

She likes the NTA Journey Planner (for all public transit across Ireland), which she uses on an iPhone. I have used & liked individual apps provided by the NTA on my Android, like the LEAP bus app; I found the Journey Planner app was slow, but that may have been my phone.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I use JustEat all over Cork, Kerry, & Waterford, not just to find takeaway & delivery places, but also to see what restaurants are currently open & near me & to look at their menus. It's like GrubHub or the late Foodler. It covers all of ROI.

In Cork, I use the People's Republic website a lot for music, plays, fun things going on that might not get covered in the local paper, as well as to get the skinny on local news (and very opinionated national news). Not an app, but if you go that far south, a useful site: https://www.peoplesrepublicofcork.com/eventguide/.

I'll be back in Cork in a few weeks. Will ask around more then.

Wow, great help. Thanks. I wish I was bringing my tablet. Some of the websites can be hard to navigate with just my smartphone. I'm a crazy light packer, however, so my phone has to suffice.
