Transportation from Belfast to Northern Ireland

My husband and I are taking the RS 14 day Best of Ireland tour in September. We want to visit some friends after the tour in Ballyliffin. The tour ends in Belfast and I would like to know the best way to get there. I've looked at a website that would start us off traveling by train, then on to a bus and then a taxi to get there. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to best do this other than driving ourselves. We also will leave Ballyliffen 3 days later and will need to get to Dublin to fly out the following day.

It looks pretty straightforward to take the train from Belfast to Derry, and the taxi co linked below could probably take you the rest of the way, no bus involved. I see 3-4 trains per day from Belfast, GBP 12.00. If it were me I'd be on the first train out in case of delay with either leg of the trip.

Edit: I see they also do airport transfers to Dublin, a bit pricey but it may be worth it one way so you don't have to leave your friend's house at the crack of dawn.

Surely your friends could meet you at the train station in Derry and drive you back to Ballyliffin. There are trains from Derry to Dublin but its a lengthy haul. When you arrive in Derry book your return ticket to Dublin. That way you can enjoy your 3 days with your friends in Ballyliffin and plan according what time you need to be at the train station for your Dublin train.
