My husband will arrive in Dublin, post March 17 for about a week. The closer I get to this trip (for celebrating my 70th) the more I get concerned about us renting a car and driving. Our itinerary is Dublin to Powerscourt area, then South toward Waterford and finally West to Kinsale and back North to fly out of Dublin. I have booked a car but am willing to give that idea up if someone can assure me that we can figure out transportation. Any suggestions? We are a young 69/70 but I want this to be a relaxing trip.
If you choose to do this route by public transport, then you could do Powerscourt as a daytrip/tour from Dublin. The rest is very easy, if you don't have other stops planned. Dublin-Waterford by train 8x/day, Waterford to Cork and Kinsale by bus runs almost hourly, Cork to Dublin by train runs hourly. Buy train tickets online at http://www.irishrail.ie/, no deadline to do so, but cheaper than in the stations. I would buy bus tickets in the stations.

Very helpful. Thank you.
