Transportation Cork to County Clare (Doolin or nearby)?

My daughter and I will be in Cork area May 20 & 21, then travel north and stay 3 or 4 nights in County Clare or on to Galway.
We won't have a car, so we'll ride bus or train. A train ride might make for a more enjoyable ride, but we have no experience with Irish trains or bus services. Also, we want to stay in one location for several days as a base of operation to see The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Cliffs of Kilkee, and listen to some live traditional Irish music. We'll rent bicycles for activities within 5 miles. For distant locations, we'll hire a taxi or possibly a local tour company to spend a day each at The Burren and Cliffs.

Two questions:
1 - Is train or bus generally preferred from Cork to Galway and what should we avoid ?
2 - Without a car, if we stay in Doolin or Ennis or other nearby town for 3 to 4 days, what do you suggest for local transport ?

In advance, thank you !

http://www.buseireann.ie/ I think the train would be over 4 hours not sure how long the bus would be. Check how often the bus stops in Doolin. I like Doolin and would be able to find enough to do with even an Aran island day trip.

Pat,

Thank you! I'll compare train & bus timetables to determine shortest or simpler travel.

What the timetables can't tell me; is there interesting scenery to view while riding a particular route?
Is the Irish railway system or scheduled bus rides (not the tour buses) experience unique in Ireland and consequently fun or enjoyable for a traveler ?
