transpo within ireland

hello. we planned to stay in Dublin for 3 days, galway 3 days and dingle 5. we are not renting a car and the transpo from one place to the other isn't easy. there's a bus from Dublin to galway which takes 3 hrs by citylink. train from galway to Tralee is 4 hrs, then bus from Tralee to dingle is over an hour. dingle back to Dublin takes a few hours also.

the website for irishrails doesn't help. I don't see the fares - is it because it is still 2 months from now?

can we just buy the bus tickets when we get there? or do we buy in advance? same goes for train tickets - do we buy them in advance?

thanks.

Hi Olivia,

There are a number of buses from Dublin - Galway - have a look at Bus Eireann, City Link and GoBus.
I imagine the prices are not detailed yet for the journey so far in advance, though I would check back closer to the time - online fares for trains are much cheaper than buying in the train station. For buses, by buying online, you save only about 10% - so savings are not massive, and you may have to book a specific time and date when booking online, whereas you could just pay on the bus or in the bus station and allow yourself more flexibility?

When in Dublin, I would look to buy the 3 Day Freedom Ticket, it's a great travel & sightseeing pass which includes the Hop-On Hop-off buses, Airport buses and public buses.

Hope that helps - enjoy your trip!

thank you, sean.

I will look into the 3 day freedom pass. I don't think I saw that in rick steves' book.
