Train from Dublin to Farranfore

I will be travelling from Dublin ( I have flexibility of which station) to Farranfore, County Kerry on September 24, a Sunday, one way only. I was surprised to see a fare of 68 Euros, which I thought was high. When I was moving around the site I saw the same route and day for around 28 Euros but could not find it again. Any ideas about how to find the less expensive fares?

Are you using the Irish Rail website at http://www.irishrail.ie/?
Just did a quick search for your date and destination and am seeing a half dozen departures that day from Heuston station with a lowest fare of 22 Euros.
Might try scrubbing the cookies on your browser if you continue to see the higher fares listed - that sometimes helps.

Kate

are you sure you were looking at trains and not flights? Farranfore is the location of Kerry Airport.

One way the most expensive standard class flexible ticket is €41 (which by coincedence appears to be the current cheapest price for a flight on your day). Cheapest fixed reservation price is half that. First class flexible when available is €53

and you don't have flexibility of station because they all go from Heuston, if you ask for Connolly it will add some extra for a tram ticket across the city!

Thanks to both of you. I do mean train, then the car rental company, located at the airport, will pick us up at the train station. I just looked up the site again and got a low fare in the twenties but when I went back it was only the 67 again. Will try again.

I just discovered the problem. The high price is for the 3 tickets! Issue resolved. Thanks again.

Kate - I do prefer train but did you know there's a bus company called "Dublin bus" that does fast buses to Killarney from Dublin? Might be worth taking a look.....

There are many private buses too that go Killarney to Cork, Killarney to Dublin, Killarney to Limerick. They cater to college kids going to and from University, but I've taken them when needing to go to a city break on a weekend!
