I will be spending some time in a SMALL village between Cork and Limerick in September. I wish to spend a day or two prior in Kenmare. I have not decided whether to fly into Shannon or Cork. Suggestions on taking the train/bus from either location to Kenmare?

Yes. There is no train service to Kenmare. The closest train stations to Shannon are in Sixmilebridge, about ten miles east, or in Limerick to the south. Easy to check on the Irish Rail website.
