Three of us will be traveling Dublin to Belfast and back the same day. In looking at fares, first class is double the price. Is there any great advantage? I looked at flex fares. When I got to picking seats, it seems there are no seat pairs that face each other? Do seat backs "flip" so you can face each other?
Second class is equal to business class on an airline. The seat width is wider in first class and the seating pattern is x xx and xx xx in second class. Space between is not that much different. For second class It depends on the coach. Some will have 2x2 seating facing each other and others will have all seats facing the middle so only the middle seats will be facing. And generally that seat will have a table. I have not seen any moving sit backs in a couple of decades.
If you click on the seat plan the grey areas are the tables. So one side of the car is 1+1 facing seats over the table (2 seat tables), the other side of the car is 2 +2 (4 seat tables).
There are also just 1 or 2 airline style seats per car.
By the way your Enterprise Ticket includes LUAS in Dublin City Centre and the Glider (the tram/bus) transport from Lanyon Place Station to Belfast City Centre.
In first class there also adjustable window blinds, and a full (paid for) meal service has returned, post Covid.
Thanks to both of you!
Sometimes wifi is not available in 2nd, only in 1st, so if you wish to use train time to do online stuff, you may wish to go 1st class. As with most electronic issues, this may be a difference that will go away in time.
