trad music in May

Asking veteran travelers: trying to decide between Sligo and Carrick-on-Shannon for the weekend, May 17 and 18. Which is more likely to satisfy our love for traditional Irish fiddle sessions? More pubs in central Sligo, but I guess parking is terrible. Easy parking in Carrick, but only one widely-known music venue, w/ another possible. If costs are the same, which is the better choice?

I haven't been to Sligo yet, but I've been to Carrick-on-Shannon several times. I don't think you will find a "session" in C-o-S, but if you aren't a drinker or don't mind taking a taxi, Anderson's The Thatch a few miles west of town will have one, unless there's been a dramatic change. In town, you'll likely find trad-ish music - just one or two musicians doing favorites (Galway Girl, Dirty Old Town, and maybe a couple reels/jigs). Try Flynn's Corner House.

I'm headed to Sligo next year and I have no doubt there will be a session in May, even on a week night.

Here's a link that I use a lot:

Thanks. I'd visited McNeela's guide to the best Irish music, and it described Cryan's Teach Cheoil as a virtually nightly source of sessions in C-o-S. Not so far as you know, I gather?
