Tollymore Forest

I have read a lot of reviews and looked at pictures of Tollymore Forest, and trying to decide if I should go out of my way to spend a few hours there. It certainly looks enchanting. It sounds wonderful and my husband and I do like off the beaten path natural spots. Any thoughts anyone can share on if it is as special a forest as it looks and where did you stay?

Greetings from Ireland
Tollymore is indeed a lovely forest, you could stop off there easily for a visit while driving from Belfast to Dublin for example, its a wee bit of a detour but nothing major.
In 25 years you are the first visitor Ive seen specifically ask about Tollymore Forest, which indicates that its not exactly on the minds and lips of everyone in Ireland when recommending a forest to visitors.
There are many other lovely ones also, so if you weren't already heading North, I would go just because of Tollymore Forest.
Actually, that might be the perfect reason to go, go somewhere that you know 99.99% of other American tourists have not. Enjoy the forest :)

It's a lovely place to visit. If you or your husband is a fan of Game of Thrones, you might be especially interested because many scenes were shot there. The various tourist boards have prepared brochures and maps to help fans find filming locations, and there is no shortage of themed bus tours.

I would also recommend a stop at the very picturesque Inch Abbey, a bit northeast of Tollymore Forest.

Thank you for the replies. I have worked out our itinerary so that we may visit Tollymore on our way to Belfast from Dublin. It does look like a lovely, yet quiet area to visit. Yes, we are Game Thrones fan, yet I learned of Tolleymore first thru photos posted on Pinterest. With the increased interest in the forest through the "Thrones" tours and Pinterest posted photos, I would think Tolleymore would become more popular. Until then we look forward to visiting before the masses learn of it. *Note: besides the enchanting photos posted on the internet, there are some realistic photos posted as well(if you look for them), as with any bit of nature, proving the forest doesn't always look as pristine and pretty as often shown in photographs.
