Time to allot for Knowth

We'll be visiting a number of sites in County Meath in May (spending just one day). From Rick's book, it looks like visiting Newgrange will take 1.5 hours (30 min shuttle, 30 min tour, 30 min on own) plus the wait for the shuttle. Would it be quicker to tour Knowth? Or does that tour take the same amount of time?

I think they allot the same amount of time. They are very strict about how many people they allow at the sites; there is no over-lapping of groups. The shuttles are on a schedule and you are given a timed ticket based on when you arrive. That may push Rick's time schedule. Our visit to Newgrange was phenomenal and so interesting to compare and contrast with things like Stonehenge, Inca and Mayan ruins.

I would encourage you to read some TripAdvisor reviews posted last May for other insight. It's been our experience with May travel that it is field trip month, so you may encounter groups. Knowledge is power.

It's all extremely interesting but I would prefer a visit to Lough Crew. This site doesn't receive half the visitor footfall as Newgrangr but is equally fascinating.

Thank you for the replies, they are very helpful. I think we'll opt for Lough Crew this trip. I see there is a sign in the parking lot at Lough Crew to not have any valuables in your car. I'm hoping that this is a relatively safe place - we will have everything in our car!
