We arrive in Dublin at 10:00 AM on May 15. I am trying to book a flight from Dublin to Paris on the same day. (300.00 PP cheaper this way) . One flight leaves at 13:40. Will I have enough time to deplane, get luggage, go back through security to get my next flight? I am assuming Air Lingus begins boards about 40 minutes out. So, boarding should begin around 13:00. So, arriving at 10:00, leaving at 1:00. Is this to tight a window or should I be ok. I know Dublin is a fairly small airport.
You missed out the potentially biggest loss of time. You will have to go through immigration (passport control) in order to pick up your luggage, then check in again for the second flight.
And you don't say where you are flying from, a transatlantic flight can be +/- 1 hour depending on wind.
If you were doing this hand luggage only, and could print out your boarding card for the second flight before you left home, then you could stay "airside" and avoid immigration, then it would be a calculated risk I would take. Otherwise I would says this is too risky, if you miss your second flight, you have to pay full price for a later flight.
We have a similar situation coming up in April, in that we are flying from Boston to Paris on Delta and then taking a separate Air France flight to Venice. I posed the question on this forum, and the consensus was to leave at least four hours between flights. Working in your favor is the fact that the Dublin airport is relatively small and easy to navigate, and you are flying mid-week, which may result in fewer crowds.
I was trying to get to Paris before midnight, but alas, it looks like I should take the 6:35 PM arriving at 9:20 PM flight. That makes me sitting in Dublin airport for 8 hours. Just enough time to not to do anything. :( Once in CDG, then transport to Paris and then to rented apt. makes me arriving around 11:30 or so.
The airport is not very far from the center of Dublin. You could take a bus into town and see some sights.
If you are flying from the US, and your entire journey is booked on Aer Lingus, 3 hours should be more than enough time.
Contrary to what Chris says, you will NOT have to go thru customs/immigration in Dublin. That will happen once you arrive in Paris.
Last summer we flew from the US to Frankfurt via Dublin (all on Aer Lingus) and walked from one gate to the next in Dublin, without ever taking our passports out. We even had time for a leisurely breakfast between flights.
We only had hand luggage, so I can't say what happens if you have checked bags.
Of course, there are other unpredictable things that could happen, but IMO 3 hours between flights is more than enough time.
PS. While Dublin is not a huge airport, it's not tiny either. You'll do a fair amount of walking, and possibly also need to take a shuttle bus.
