those who were in Ireland during the last 2 weeks in Oct & first 2 weeks in Nov in previous years ?

What was your luck with the weather this year ?

Was it better or worse than you expected ?

Where did you have the best weather? The worse ?

Was it typical to your previous experience?

What do you wish you had packed? What did you pack and not use ?

Any advice for touring at that time of year?

Can’t wait to hear all about your experiences.

We were there October 11-28. We’re from California and expected cold weather. It was in the 40s and cold to us. Rain on and off the whole time we were there, but it would drizzle for awhile, then quit. Reminded me of Seattle weather. So not too bad. Except the day we were at the Cliffs of Moher! Of course. 😂 Pelting rain and hard wind. We were soaked. Glad I had my raincoat and umbrella and scarf. Warmer shirts vs fashionable blouses would have been a better choice of clothing. Nobody really saw what I was wearing under my raincoat, down vest and scarf anyways. Wish I would have brought gloves and a knit cap. And better shoes. Waterproof ones. The spray didn’t work well on my tennies.

Overall we had days of rain, and days of sun, but always cold.

The weather in Europe this year hasn’t been “typical” anywhere I have been (including France - worst summer storms in living memory, very windy Spain, wet and windy Portugal and of course the U.K.) so what happened this year will have no bearing on next year. In the UK, we have had some of the driest and the wettest months on record so far this year and the records go back about 100 years!

At this time of year, pack layers and some good waterproof gear including footwear.

This year's weather has absolutely no bearing on any other year's! You could be lucky or unlucky.

I will change my question to in the past not this year.....

We were supposed to go this fall but had 3 surgeries that prevented this. Now planning for 2020.

We were in Ireland from Oct 8 - 29 and spent our time in Dublin and Counties Cork, Kerry and Clare. We had everything - rain, drizzle, wind, beautiful sun, rain, etc, etc. Most days had everything. Temperatures in the mid to low teens (C), a few days in the higher single digits, frost in Co Claire later in October. Wear layers, water proof footwear and jacket/coat. Bring hat, gloves and maybe a scarf - or buy them there. Lots of woolen shops. Umbrella may be useful when it's not too windy - but otherwise it's useless. 2019 was a really wet year for Ireland, so many of the trails were quite wet and muddy. Next time I'll bring some gators to cover the bottom of my pant legs when we hike.

We were there 6-16 October 2010 and drove all over, from Giant’s Causeway in the north to Kinsale in the south, and over to Galway and Dingle,. We ended back in Dublin. We generally had good weather, but we did get some light rain and needed light jackets on some days, and most evenings.

Just returned on Friday, from a two-week trip (11/1 - 11/15). We traveled most of the country. Always carry an umbrella - weather will change every 15-minutes! The coasts are very windy (we experienced a day of 40-60 mph gusts). In general, I found the 45-50 degree weather to be more comfortable than I expected.

Wear layers - I primarily wore either: a) a fleece jacket with a light long-sleeve wind blast jacket, b) sleeveless wind vest under a light long sleeve wind blast jacket, or c) just the light wind blast jacket. I also brought a down sleeveless vest, which I found too warm and did not wear. (PS. The fleece makes a great pillow on the plane.)

I purchased a tuque (winter pull-over hat) to play golf. The wind is so strong on the coasts, that it is difficult to keep your hat on!

As indicated by a previous post, I think October may be the best month of the year, but we loved spending time with the locals. The roads were not heavily traveled, and we had no trouble with lines at the attractions (we had advance tickets, but we could have just walked in Guinness, which is unheard of in the summer months).

Hope this helps! You will have a blast.
