The Vee, Tipperary

Just a short PSA....

If anyone will be on a driving trip in late May or early June, and you happen to be close to Cahir, Cashel, or even Cork, I strongly suggest visiting The Vee in co. Tipperary. During that time of year the entire area is filled with blooming rhododendron...we were there last June and it's one of the most spectacular sites we've ever seen. There's a proper car park near the top, and a nice foot path down to the lake. There's also a smaller car park at the bottom, but you have to negotiate a steep walk up to the lake (but you'll still want to stop there to get great shots of the valley.) Very few people even know about this place. Just thought I'd pass this along.

Good one. We really enjoy off-the-beaten-path things like this and so have bookmarked it for future reference. Thanks for posting.

I love advice such as this. Does anyone know what it would be like in early April? Also, did you by any chance visit Kilfane waterfalls in Kilkenny?

From what I understand, the rhododendron only blooms at the end of May and the first two weeks in June...which was one of the reasons I planned our last trip to go when we did. I have seen photos of the area when the heather is blooming, but it didn't seem nearly as dramatic.

Have not been to Kilfane Falls! Many thanks for the tip...we'll earmark that for our next visit. During our last visit we did visit Mahon Falls (co. Waterford), and it was spectacular. Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?edufilter=NULL&v=xYqe8KgQxcE. There's a proper car park, and the half-mile walk - on a very nice foot path - to the falls is just lovely.
