The Number 29–“closed permanently?!”/ Jeannie Johnston Ship

My wife and I spent better part of an hour today in Dublin, trying to find the Number 29 museum on Fitzwilliam, near Merrion Square.
We finally stopped in at a cafe and were informed that it has “permanently closed.” That, despite our Google Maps app saying it was there.

Too bad, as it sounded like a good window into Dublin life of a century ago.
On a brighter note, we did a GREAT visit to the Jeannie Johnston famine relief ship on the river. “Jerry,” our guide was superb! Engaging and fine give-and-take with our diverse group.

Why had we not heard about these humanitarian crew members and their nearly 20 voyages to Canada and the US? Jerry said one reason could be they were decent, Quaker-inspired people “who didn’t blow their own trumpet.” They took half the number of immigrants on each trip, took along a doctor and charged half as much per traveler. Can we find anyone like that today?

If you are still in Dublin and would like to experience something very similar to Number 29, consider 14 Henrietta Street, https://14henriettastreet.ie/. It's similar to Number 29 in that it recreates the former life of a Georgian Townhouse but it differs in that it has been "restored" to show the house's up and downs and how it mirrors Dublin's ups and downs. I believe reservations are required.
