the drive from Dublin to Cork - what should we stop and see on the route?

We are doing a self-drive 10 night tour in September. I have Rick's book and maps and they will be quite helpful. On day 3 we are leaving Dublin to go to Cork and Blarney castle. What should we stop and see along the route? We have all day and want to make sure we do not overlook something worth stopping at along the drive. Any recommendations?

Absolutely Cashel. Well worth .maybe a couple of hours for leisure exploration and maybe lunch in town.

Cashel for sure, also Cahir Castle if that interests you. Kilkenny isn't far off the direct route, many people like it but I haven't been.

If you do Rock of Cashel, also try and find time to visit Hore Abbey on the outskirts of Cashel. It is lovely and not many people go there.

My wife and I were in Cashel this summer. The Rock of Cashel and Hore Abbey are within easy walking distance, and both are well worth exploring. If you are interested in Irish History, the Cashel Folk Village covers the 1916 Rising, War of Independence, and Irish Civil War. It doesn't have the polished feel that one associates with a museum, but Bernard is passionate and knowledgeable. It was well worth visiting. We were also in Kilkenny which is filled with so many interesting sites: Rothe House/Gardens, Kilkenny Castle, St. Canice's Cathedral, Medieval Mile Museum, the Butler Gallery. There are so many things to do there that it deserves an overnight stay. In our opinions, any of these are better options than Blarney Castle. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to give yourself enough time. Ireland is an amazing place. Enjoy your visit.
