testing upon US return

Been there many times but not since the COVID bs. Going again in June and wondering if anyone has advice on the best way to handle getting a negative test on the day of or day before going back to US.

Two options
1) Have your hotel direct you to a local clinic
2) Take the Binax Now Covid-19 Ag Card test (has an RX on the front of the box) with you and do the test via telemedicine wherever there is internet.

Some people have mentioned that they plan to use a local clinic but are taking the telemedicine test kit with them as a "back up".

I've used the test kit twice now with immediate results and the entire process took about 20 minutes.

Like Carol, when we travel, we carry the Binax Now Covid-19 Ag Card test - even in between EU countries... because sometimes, rules change. We carry two tests each - just in case we screw one up - which is what they recommend. We're quite mindful of the expiration dates and keeping them "rotated." The place we've used them the most often and where we had the most challenges getting a test? In the USA, testing so we can get back into Europe!

So with the Binex how far in advance do have to schedule the session? I noticed the Dublin airport also tests with results in a couple of hours which can be done day before or day of.

I've never had to wait. We usually do it just after we pass inside the "time requirements" of the country we're headed to. I suppose you could do it right before you left for the airport??? But it takes 20 minutes and you need some time in case you mess up (which is hard to do as it's pretty simple!) But I've never been put on hold and always had a rep respond as I connect. So no scheduling - just do it! The key issue - you must have a good internet connection.

I'll second RnR. We used the BinaxNow proctored test to return from Spain last week. We did the test the day before we came home, as required. Though we had two cell phones we used the same phone and took the tests consecutively. No problems with waiting, everything went smoothly. No worries about making an appointment at a testing site or how to get there. These are very convenient to use.

very helpful and thx to you all. Darn stressful on a vaca having to worry about testing positive on the last day-any idea of the amt of false positives with Binex?

In using the Binax Now how are the results uploaded? I have a Binax Now Antigen self test which I took and after the 15 minutes it asks for a negative or positive which was negative and I submitted it there any further verification or interaction with a human? And is this the correct test?

Not the "Self-Test". You need the BinaxNOW COVID-19 "Ag Card 2 Home Test" or "Ag At-Home Test". Abbott sends you a PDF with the result after the test. Since it arrives password-protected, I take a screenshot, then upload that using my airline's mobile app when I check in.

False-positives aren't really the problem. False-negatives are.

I just returned from South Africa and used the BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card (Proctored) Home Test twice due to mechanical and scheduling problems. Both times were easy peasy. After requesting a session it took less than two minutes for someone to come online. Then, maybe ten minutes to go through the paperwork (ID Check, Test Box Expiration, instructions, etc.) and test itself, fifteen minutes waiting for the result to percolate on the test sheet, and five minutes getting the Proctor back, displaying and voice confirming the result. After that it was less than 15 minutes to get the result in a PDF file via email.
The Proctor does go offline for the fifteen minutes while the test is percolating and you are free to do something else while you wait. They did want to keep an eye on the test laying on the table.

For me it was much less stressful than looking for a testing location nearby, I just did it from my hotel room. If you are not tech savvy you can forward your test email and ask then to print a copy of the test.

If you go this route be sure and follow the directions on the box to download the Navica App and setup an account before leaving home.

With BinaxNOW -- someone has referred to "on hold". I'm just trying to get a handle on how this works practically: I was assuming this is an entirely online thing, but does it involve an actual dialed-up phone call at any point? Or just online? And do you have to be on camera with someone while doing it?

It's all done through your phone. Yes, you'll use the camera. You don't need to install the app. You can use your web browser.
