Taxi from Dublin Airport to city?

My wife and I and our 22 month old will be traveling to Dublin and the Irish countryside in two weeks' time. As we prepare, it turns out that one of the cottages we have rented does not have a baby cot (pack-n-play). As we researched alternatives, it seems that the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to bring our pack and play with us from the States (other travel options would be as expensive as buying a new pack-n-play). However, this adds one more item to our luggage. When traveling on our own before our daughter was born, we were true RickNiks in that we had one carry-on and one personal item each. But the need for a car seat and luggage for a person who can't carry her own has created a dilemma. We simply don't have enough hands to get everything where it needs to go.

So....we are considering taking a taxi from the Dublin Airport into town rather than taking the bus. Looking online it seems that this is a fairly cost-effective way to go as well since we would have at least two fares on the bus with a possible child fare (not sure if she would be free). Does anyone have experience with taxis in Dublin? Would this be a cost-effective way to go?

Additionally, if it is cost-effective, do the cabs line up at the airport as they do in most major cities?

Cary, Taxi was easy to find at the airport. We rode to Drumcondra I think it was fifteen euro or so but you could get a pretty close number online. It makes sense just to get there after traveling! Have a great trip.

The cost of a taxi off the rank would be round about €25 to the city centre, depending on exactly where you are going. This is roughly double the cost of the bus (2 adult fares of €6 - under 3 years old children are free), but you might welcome the convenience.

Thank you for the information. While it is more expensive to take a taxi, it is less than the extra $65 it would cost to buy an inflatable travel bed or similar cost for a pack-n-play from a store in Ireland that we would then leave behind. So it looks like the taxi is still going to be our best option.

A taxi certainly makes sense in your situation.

At 22 months why don't you just set up a pallet on the floor using pillows and blankets? It may be cheaper to pack your own but you will pay the cost in stress from lugging the thing around Ireland for 3 weeks just for one cottage. $50 or 60 will buy you one with free shipping on Amazon.co.uk; just have it shipped directly to the cottage if the landlord will be nice enough to sign for it or have it held at a local post for you to pick up when you get there.

I agree with the consensus for a taxi. Last time I took that airport bus, it felt like it took "forever."
