WE are booked into a bnb in Sutton, north of Dublin as it is less expensive and quieter. We plan to take two day tours and go one day by ourselves to Kilkenny by train. It is supposed to take only 20 minutes into Dublin via bus or DART. I am concerned that we might have to get up at 5:00 a.m. in order to make an 8:30 pickup at one of the pickup sites. Has anyone ever stayed out here (about half way between Howth and Dublin). The reviews I read said that it was a good place to stay for seeing Dublin but didn't mention going on day tours. It is also only 14 minutes from the airport so I thought it was a good choice . I can cancel but need to do it in a timely fashion. Any one have some thoughts or suggestions?
Only to say that the usual tradeoff in staying outside the city centers & popular tourist areas is that you spend time and money "commuting" from your lodging to the places you're interested in touring. I agree that Dublin hotels are expensive as is to be expected in any major city, but choosing a hotel nearer to your day tour pickup locations might be worth the extra cost, in terms of convenience (who wants to get up at 5 AM on vacation???) and saving DART fares.
