suggestions for travel from Dublin to Kells,Meath County for a day

We are joining 3 other family members for a tour of Ireland but I want to go a day early to visit Kells, Meath County where my ancestors are from. What is the best way to get there from Dublin(bus or train)? Can we go there and spend a few hours looking around and return to Dublin in the same day? What are the highlights of Kells? There is not much in the travel books about it. Thank you!

Here's the link from Trip Advisor re things to do in Kells: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g644236-Activities-Kells_County_Meath.html
Don't think there's a train. Don't know about a bus, but your best bet with 3 people wanting to spend a day might be to rent a car at the airport and just head up that way...well away from Dublin city traffic. Newgrange and the Boyne Valley are only about 45 minutes from Kells. Could maybe do a short round robin and then return the car to the airport.
