Suggestions for lodging - Galway and Dingle

Hello - I'm trying to book lodging in Galway and Dingle for 3 adults in September. I've looked at Rick's $$ recommendations and they're just a little too pricey. Anyone have any $ recommendations in either of those two places? I've tried AirB&B too, and will keep trying with that, but the ones in Galway don't look too great. Thanks!

For Dingle, we stayed a little outside of the town in Ventry at the Garvey farmhouse.. loved it! The breakfast was delicious and the Garveys were great hosts.

We stayed at the Connaught in Galway and I do not recommend it at all

Are you looking for hotels or B&Bs? Following are B&Bs...

In Dingle we stayed at the Lighthouse a few years ago with a room looking over the town, lovely view, especially at night. It was up the hill from the town, walkable. My SIL stayed at Pax House and gave it rave reviews.

In Galway we have stayed at Petra House (very nice, watch your head in the bathroom in one of the front facing rooms), Prague House (lovely hosts, easy walk from edge of Salthill, smallish room) and Marless House in Salthill, just about perfect to walk to the prom, take the bus into the city.

Marless was booked for our upcoming April dates so we reserved with Cappa Veagh, which looks great.

Milltown House in Dingle is owned by RS tour guide Stephen McPhilemy. Had a great stay there a couple of years ago. Seamus and Saoirse, the resident Irish Wolfhounds, will eagerly greet you. Excellent Irish breakfast and other special treats.

I've stayed at Petra House in Galway and can highly recommended it as well. Fantastic breakfast.

I've stayed in Russel's, Brosnan's and the Archway b and b's. All reasonably priced and comfortable with delicious breakfasts.

We stayed at the Milestone House on the outskirts of Dingletown. Barbara and Michael were wonderful hosts. Barbara had a lot of insider info on the Dingle Loop drive that made our trip special. They also shared a lot of helpful suggestions about where to go in town, and made arrangements for us to see the folk concert at the church. The breakfast was great! We could not find better bread than Michael's the rest of our trip across the country. If you don't spend time talking with them and tapping into their knowledge of the area, you are missing out on some amazing experiences. We can't wait to return!

I love Milltown House, too. Run by a Rick Steves guide as stated above - it's a bit high compared to B&Bs but it is WAY nicer that any B&B I've stayed in in Dingle.

If you're looking budget, don't miss out on the hostels. Hostels are not the flea traps we americans always imagined!! I recommend most of the ones I've stayed in (and only had issues with them in Galway).....

If you stay in less touristy places you will keep prices down. Say, Annascoul or Camp..... on Dingle peninsula both. The problem is, Dingle town is a tourist mecca and they don't have unlimited space. They charge more because they can get it! Maybe even Killorglin on the Ring of Kerry, instead, and just enjoy Dingle....

I was very happy with Ardrinane House in Annascaul. We stayed in a family room, we had more beds than people. Literally across the street from South Pole Inn. Delicious breakfast. I booked through Booking.com. The B&B my daughter and I stayed in just on the outskirts of Galway was clean and welcoming with a good breakfast, but the tiniest all the places we stayed. But there are so many places you could choose from, there were cul-de-sacs full of B&B's.

On booking.com, outside of Dublin, we averaged about $80 per night for 2 of us. Nothing ritzy, but all safe, clean, and comfortable. I should note that we traveled late September into October.

I can also recommend Milestone House for the reasons given above. I would happily stay there again.

We stayed 3 nights at the Greenmount House B&B in Dingle. The place is quite new and modern compared to the typical B&Bs we stayed at. Instead of small rooms with tiny bathrooms, and showers that you can barely turn around in, we had what must be by Irish standards a truly enormous room with a very spacious bathroom. I believe it was one of their "traditional rooms" on the back side because of the picture of the bathroom posted on their website. I remember the bathroom clearly because of the shower - it was as big at 3 typical Irish shower stalls. The place doesn't have the antique, classic quaint & cramped feeling of many B&Bs, but it sure is comfortable. I'm not sure what the RS $ rating is for this place is now, but we paid €100 per night and that was when the € was $1.35, so it's a 10% better deal now. I recall the food as very good with nice variety from day to day. Have a grand time on your trip.

In Galway we can recommend Petra House. We like to stay in Salthill where we liked Marless House, and more recently, Cappa Veagh. The 401 bus runs every 20 minutes into Galway.

Another recommendation for the Lighthouse in Dingle, as well as the Atlantic Heights B&B in Galway. Both were excellent, just a little way from the heart of each town, but with easy access into town, and they were both exceedingly well-managed.
