suggestion on place to discover before dropping car off

2 questions really:
After spending a few days in dublin we will drive to a few places along the southern coast and dingle peninsula
(flying already out of dublin so shannon is not an option)
we will drive from dingle towards dublin airport the day before we fly out
if our flight is at 11 am on a saturday should we drop car off the night before and stay at a dublin airport hotel:( or can you suggest a few towns close by that are worth seeing just outside for an dinner and an overnight?

also should i travel back to the dublin airport from dublin center to get rental car as we will return it to the dublin airport? I hate to as we are travelling south to powerscort and glendalough

If it were me I'd stay in Dublin the night before, get up early and have a great walk around the town, then take a taxi to the airport. If flight was at 7 a.m. I feel differently, but it gives you a couple of (early) hours to do something, if only a walk and some coffee.
There is also Malahide, have not been but people do say it's good to see, in particular if you've spent time in Dublin already.

We picked up car rental in Dublin after spending three days seeing the city, not at the airport, and that worked well. You don't want a car, generally, if you are just seeing Dublin, pick it up the day you leave Dublin for the south. If you can drop the day before you are free from the car-make sure the office where you wish to drop will be open on the day and time you require. That's one advantage of the airport is the longer rental hours.

The Airlink airport bus is easy and fast into Dublin. Buy a round trip ticket and save a couple of euros and ride into town and then back to rent the car. There is no reason to drive or park in Dublin and the airport gets you out of town and near the highway.

You can decide after you see how the airport bus works but I would just stay in Dublin for one last night and morning rather than stay near the airport. Another option is stay somewhere like Trim which is cute little town with a good castle and shouldn't be more than a hour from the airport if you want one last small town night rather than bug city Dublin. But if you come back very late and are really worried about making the airport in the morning staying near the airport is an option.

Have a great trip!
