Suggested stops between Dublin and Adare

We are driving from Dublin to Adare with 3 children (ages 14, 13, & 10) are there any worthy stops on the way or we would be willing to go out our way if there was something special to see. We are not interested in Waterford. Thank you.

What sort of things interest you and the children? Waterford is nowhere near Adare anyway. In Kildare you have the National Stud and Japanese Gardens. Further down the road is the historical Rock of Dunamase.
