My husband and I will be travelling from Dublin to Killarney by train in Mid-May. I am wondering if it would be feasible for us to stop in Thrules, take a taxi to the Rock of Cashel, come back to Thrules, and continue on the train to Killarney in one day.

You need to allow about 30 minutes for the drive. The Rock itself will take a couple of hours - so allow 3+ hours for the detour and check out train times to see if this is feasible.
