Stop over heading down from Giant's Causeway to Bunratty

Have an extra night to stay when heading from Giant's Causeway (leaving about noon) to Bunratty. Do not need to be in Bunratty until about 3 the next day.
Already will have done Belfast, Dublin. Looking for something more in the interior and stops along the way.
Will be doing Galway and south after this portion. 2 couples and driving.

On a similar trip, we spent the night in between the Giant's Causeway area and Galway in Westport, which is lovely. The drive is at least four and half hours (could be quite a bit more depending on driving conditions), so you'd want to make several stops during the drive. From Westport, the drive towards Galway through Connemara is breathtaking.

Note, though, that Bunratty is south of Galway, so you'll inevitably be doing some backtracking if you head from Bunratty back up to Galway and then south again.

For a drive through the interior, you might consider spending the night at Athlone and visiting nearby Clonmacnoise, an ancient monastic site. The drive time is similar to the route mentioned above.

When we visited the Causeway, we went again during the evening. If you can, try to do so. The crowds will be gone and the sunsets are amazing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into them. We are doing a 1 week bike trip from Bunratty and ending in Galway. So we won't need to backtrack to head south. Thanks again for the information.

The bike trip sounds like it will be a lot of fun--beautiful country between the two places. Have a great trip!
