staying post tour in Dublin

I recently
inquired about staying 2 nights post tour at the Trinity City Hotel in Dublin. Our tour is June 23-29/24. To my surprise the rate is 361.13 euro that is non-refundable. This seems high and I was surprised as booking this far in advance, it would be non-refundable. After all, this is a “Rick Steves hotel” that our tour group will finish our tour staying at….. Any comments? Thanks…..

A few thoughts:
-Dublin is now one of Europe's more expensive cities.
-You don't mention if that price is per night or for the whole stay. Former, yes, it's pricey; latter, it's going rate.
-The actual tour hotels are usually not confirmed until much closer to the tour's departure date, so there's probably no way of knowing if you'd actually stay there with the tour.
-There is surely also a refundable rate on offer, though it may cost more.
-Sometimes people find better rates online, bookingdotcom, than they're offered by hotels directly as a tour extension.

Jude13wood- Hotel prices are high everywhere, and that seems right in the ballpark. But, I would reach out to the hotel to ask if they have a refundable rate with cancellation options. It's hard to believe they wouldn't. We have stayed at quite nice hotels on our RS tours, so they definitely aren't bargain rate hotels.
Scudder- First and last hotels are provided upon booking a RS Tour, so that would be available information to those confirmed on the tour.

Hey, Jude (I just HAD to). We are booked for RS Ireland in 2024 and I just went through the finding a hotel in Dublin exercise. I was shocked by the increase in rates since I was last there in 2019. I did book at Staunton’s on the Green (thank you for the recommendation I found on this forum) for 334 euros with a 48 hour cancellation policy. The hotels have different rates for refundable / non-refundable, breakfast / no breakfast options so check out your hotel’s rates online. We have the same end of tour hotel with RS.

I am traveling earlier in the spring than you. Had we been there in the summer, I would have tried to book a dorm room at Trinity College. You might look at that option. The location is not far from your end of tour hotel and rates should be better.

I am booked on the 14 day (13 night) Ireland tour April 21 - May 4. Our starting hotel was originally a Hampton/Hilton or something like that and has already changed to Buswell's. I am going in currently, 7 nights early, and am not staying at Buswell's. I am staying at Zanzibar Locke. It is 1,291.5 Euro for 7 nights ..which I guess is about 200 US dollars per night. It is a small apartment, has kitchen and laundry. This can be cancelled up to 24 hrs before arrival. If I didn't want a kitchen, I think I could find something less expensive.

Our tour is June 23-29/24.

So I'm guessing you are looking for a room for the evenings of June 29th and 30th? The sold-out Taylor Swift concerts in Dublin on June 28th, 29th, and 30th are probably exacerbating already high tariffs.

From this article:
https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/music/2023/07/21/im-absolutely-gutted-taylor-swift-fans-disappointed-after-failing-to-secure-tickets-to-dublin-shows/

"I’m absolutely gutted (not to get tickets.) It was already bad enough that local hotels were charging extortionate money for rooms.”
