St Patrick's Day in Ireland

My husband and I just booked a flight 3/14 thru 3/20 to Dublin. We want to see more than Dublin and planned to stay in Dublin our last night. We love taking in the outdoors and doing things off the beaten path. What should we do and where should we spend St Patrick's day?

Greetings from Ireland, if you want an authentic Irish experience try and spend St. Patricks Day anywhere other than Dublin.
Go to smaller city or town, they all have parades and events.
Although it has some high points, its mostly tourists dressed in green and despairing at how few Irish people they're meeting.
I'm speaking as an Irish citizen and one who has spent 15 St. Patricks Day in Dublin (but I was being paid to be be there, I'd never go by choice)

Thanks so much! I really wanted to spend St Patrick's Day in a smaller place. Any suggestions.

Theres loads of good options, but for a safe bet go to Dingle.
There's two parades. One at 6am with the Dingle fife band in a tradition going back to the days when the parade was banned, this parade is also Irelands earliest; and then another bigger parade with floats and music and even st. Patrick himself. Its fun, its full of local families and kids, and there is no one guzzling green beer.
Enjoy!
