Splitting time between Galway & Dublin

We are arriving in Galway from the UK on 9/19/24 and flying home to the US on 10/1/24. Planning only to stay in Galway and Dublin. How much time should we spend in each city to maximize our touring? We will not have a car. Also, please recommend a few hotels in Dublin that will be easy to get to transportation hubs etc but are still quiet enough for sleep. We are a 68 yr old couple that needs our rest! We are not experienced travelers so looking for any tips you may have ! Suggestions very much appreciated!!!
Thanks! Renee

Hi, Renee! Have you decided what you want to see yet? That will help determine how long you spend in each city.

It sounds like you have narrowed your trip to just these 2, but you could split many ways.

With no car, from Galway you can actually take a number of great coach tours - Cliffs of Moher, Connemara and Kylemore Abbey, and the ferry to Inishmor for the day. That would be at least 4 nights. But 5 nights would work and give you a slower pace.

With 5 nights there, that leaves 6 nights in Dublin. There is plenty to occupy you in Dublin, but there are also day trips you could take as well.

In Galway, I stayed at the Victoria Hotel. It is an easy walk to the bus station and walking distance to the city center and close to where bus tours depart from.

Hope that helps!

I would want at least three full days in Galway to day tours to the big three that TexasTravelMom suggests. This will require at least four nights. These are the same three day trips I did, and I left Galway wishing I had a bit more time so I would also suggest at least five nights and four whole days. That leaves you plenty of time for Dublin, and day trips from there, also. From Dublin you can do a day trip to Belfast or Kilkenny, plus many others such as Newgrange and Glendalough. Do a google search for day tours from both cities and see what interests you and use that as a guide to determine how many days you will need.
