Has anyone ever stay a few days in the Clifden area and used this as a home base for the sights in the Connemara area? Also, looking at spending those days in the Abby Glen Castle? Looking for insight into this plan.
Thank you

We did this last May and enjoyed it very much. We had a rental car, and drove to the Connemara National Park (near Letterfrack) for a day, and the next day we drove the (semi) coastal path south to the village of Roundstone, and returned along the inland bog road. Not much in the way of sights, except nature and the coast, and the site where the early navigators Alcock and Brown crashed their plane on their way across the Atlantic from the US. It was low-key, and follow-your-nose travel, but we enjoyed it very much.
Clifden itself is charming and walkable, though a bit crowded with French and German tourists. There is a handy laundry in town, a few good pubs, and a supermarket.
You would definitely need a car. It’s a good place for kicking back and taking a vacation from your vacation.
Have a wonderful trip.
We did both and really enjoyed it. We did a day trip to Ashford Castle to do the hawk walk, which I highly recommend. We had a working fireplace in our room at AG and loved using it when it was cold in July. Also enjoyed a dinner and the breakfasts there.
