South Dublin to Sally Gap to Glendalough

I'm planning to drive from Dublin to Glendalough via Sally Gap (visiting from the US). I'll be driving on Saturday June 14, leaving from south of Dublin around 930am (unfortunately unable to leave any earlier). I'm trying to get a better sense as to how busy the Sally Gap route is likely to be, and how difficult that could make the drive. I have watched YouTube videos of the route, and while it doesn't look like a difficult drive when the roads are empty, I am wondering if it would make for a challenging drive at this time on a Saturday in June, and if I should just skip Sally Gap / Glendalough and head directly to Kilkenny (our final stop for the evening) via M9. Any experience or suggestions would be appreciated, thank you.

I've done this drive in late May- thinking back I believe it was a Monday. When we did it the road was pretty empty and it wasn't a difficult drive. However, a Saturday in June could potentially be quite different. It's not the fastest way from Dublin to Glendalough- on the way there we took a more direct route and went via Sally Gap/military road on the way back to Dublin. So if you are worried about the drive, you could still visit Glendalough on the way to Kilkenny via the more direct route. The way we went also included a visit to Powerscourt (which I really recommend for its beautiful grounds). Sorry I can't give more direct advice- I wasn't the one driving so don't remember more specifically than that.
