Small B & B's

We recently had a trip planning session with a Rick Steves Travel Advisor and got tons of great information including recommendations of places to stay. Most of them sound great. However, I noticed that they are all small hotels or medium size B&B's so I'm sure they are the same places used on the Rick Steves Ireland tours. We will probably stay at most of them but would like to find at least one place that is really special. "Special" to us would be a family home that offers one or two rooms or has an interesting host to speak with.

We are planning on staying 2 or nights at (or near) Dublin, Kinsale, Dingle, Galway, and Trim. Does anyone have any recommendations for any of those areas?

Thanks in advance!

Bob

It's been 12 years (how time flies) and a little bigger than 1-2 rooms, all family run then. Full Irish Breakfast at all. The ones that still seem to exist... here goes:
Rockfield Bed & Breakfast, Avoca, Co. Wicklow
Landfall House B&B Kinsale
Elyod House B&B Killarney
Tower View B&B in Dingle, Co. Kerry
Churchfield B&B, Doolin

My first port of call for quality B&Bs would be sawdays.co.uk. I have never been disappointed with any properties on their website.

Unfortunately, the Sawday's site is currently behaving quite erratically or not working at all.

In Galway, we always stay at The Prague House. There are maybe four rooms, but the owner is very visible and talkative. No website but email works. Right in the center of town.

Glendine House in Clonakilty has two rooms and very gregarious owners. Medium walk to town.

I stayed at the Cloisters B&B in Kinsale in 2017 and thought it was wonderful. I would stay there again.

We stayed three times at the Lighthouse in Dingle and twice at the Old Presbytery in Kinsale and certainly enjoyed both. Also stayed three times at Cell Bhreac in Dingle . we found that it was sold so not sure how it is now but we loved the upper front porch in the evenings looking over the Bay wonderful view.

We made the choice to skip Kinsale and chose instead to stay in a castle in Castletownshend located on the southern coast sitting on a bay. It is called The Castle. It’s in a very tiny village with two pubs, it’s very old with a lot of history, and no Americans when we were there (our preference). Check it out for something different. It was one of our favorites stops on our two week trip!
