My friend and i will be travelling to Ireland in May and finish a tour in Sligo. We have 4 days that we would like to spend in the area between Sligo and Galway. We will not have a car, like to hike/walk and just get to know the area. Looking for suggestions of the best place to base our 4 days?
We enjoyed our stay in Westport very much.
Where else does the tour go?
If it doesn't go to Donegal, Sligo is a good choice, as you can travel there by bus. Sligo itself has a compact and charming city center. The Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is on my list. Good access to nearby beaches, as well.
I've barely heard of Foxford, so not sure what is there.
I stayed in Westport, down by the quay, and enjoyed walks in the area. Croagh Patrick is nearby and can be reached by bus (according to Google Maps). There are cycling opportunities along the Great Western Greenway, with cycle hire available near the quay and in town. A lot of Forum folk prefer to stay in town for the music, etc. We enjoyed the Clew Bay views from our apartment.
It's a bit of a walk into town from the train station. We got a ride to the quay with Brendan from www.taxiwestport.ie

Thank you for the information. We will have time in Donegal so it looks like Westport is a good option to end the visit.
