Slieve league vs. Beara peninsula

I am looking to hear from people you have been to both Slieve League and the Breara Peninsula. Making my first trip to Ireland and have planned for all the major hits: giants causeway, Cliffs of Mohr, Aran Islands, Dingle, staying in Kenmare as well as Kilkenny and Dublin. While I understand these two places are totally different I am interested in hearing the pluses, minuses and most importantly which place you would visit again. Thank you in advance. Trying to make this a once in a lifetime trip.

If you're already planning to stay in Kenmare then side trips to explore the Beara Peninsula from there would seem to make more sense than re-arranging your itinerary to include a visit to Slieve League.
While we enjoyed our visit to Slieve League, we always make it a point to return to the Beara Peninsula on every visit to Ireland.
And from Kenmare you'll be strategically located for short drives along the prettiest part of the ROK, including the pleasant excursion out along the Skellig Ring Road towards Portmagee.

The drive from Kenmare to Bantry is beautiful with very little traffic. We preferred it to ROK. Along the route you can stop at Molly Galivan"s woolen shop and animal farm.

Beara peninsula is an amzing place! Not the least because the big tour buses can't go there (there's a sharp right turn they can't do) so it's much less touristy. I highly recommend it!!

Do check the calendar and make sure your dates don't conflict with the Ring of Beara cycle. I think it would be a BAD day to visit Beara!

I also agree that that side of the Ring of Kerry drive is the prettiest part! Don't overlook staying in Sneem. There are two great hotels - The Sneem Hotel and the very posh Parknasilla Resort. I've stayed in both; though different, bot really great spots....
