Sixt in Ireland Experience

I'm booking a car for a trip in late October. I had preferred to book through Enterprise and clearly should have earlier as they don't have any intermediate vehicles available. I do have a reservation through Sixt. It seems folks generally have a good experience with Sixt. However, I'm finding info online with concerns with surprise charges, also a ridiculous hold on the credit card when one uses their credit card insurance (which we will be doing..with proper documentation). Is there truth to these concerns? Should I be looking at different options?

You might want to try My Irish Cousin for car rental in Ireland as they work exclusively with Enterprise and may have rentals. Sometimes the rates are higher but ours did not turn out very different from renting directly from Enterprise as we needed full insurance and extra driver. We had an excellent experience with them in August picking up in Shannon and dropping in Kilkenny.

After driving for nearly 30 years on many trips to Ireland I strongly recommend that you do not rely
on your credit card for auto rental insurance and buy the full ride through a reputable vendor. I used
Dan Dooley for years, but they have been fully integrated into Enterprise (with whom they used to
partner). Some good recommendations on this site led me to My Irish Cousin, which also partners
with Enterprise. The difference is that if you book through My Irish Cousin ALL the necessary coverage
one should have in Ireland is included and the rate is fair and reasonable. You do not want to drive
around Ireland worrying about coverage, or dealing with a lack of coverage after the fact. Again, this
advice is based on years of experience. Good luck and enjoy your trip!
