I'm headed to Ireland in a couple of days. I'm not particularly worried about looking like a tourist--since I am one and will always look like one--but I'm wondering if a bright red raincoat will be a serious faux pas.
Your travel partner(s) will thank you for being visible. Wear what you like (and already own, where possible). Have a great time!
I think it will be adorable! And add a nice, cheerful pop of color on a gray, blustery day.
I can’t think of any social norms you’d be breaking, either. I say “go for it!” :-)
I have a red plaid rain poncho I bought in Sorrento several years ago. I love it and am past the age to care what others think. As you said, I’ll look like a tourist no matter what I wear.
Because the poncho is light weight and billows in the wind, I bought a heavier blue knee length rain coat for England/Ireland this summer which I wore a lot. It rained 9 straight days in Ireland and half the time in England between heat waves.
My rain jacket is bright green. I figure it helps me not get run over.
I can't think of a single reason why any of the sheep out grazing in the beautiful countryside would be offended. Nor would a single person in the city care. Enjoy Ireland and your (probably will come in handy) bright red raincoat.
My cousin in Scotland loves wearing her bright green raincoat, so if it’s ok in Scotland I’m sure it will be fine in Ireland. Enjoy! :-)
