Should we visit Bunratty Castle and folk park

We have a couple days in our itinerary and we are trying to decide how to spend them.
We are coming from flying into dublin and exploring the south western area by car. We will be coming from Dingle and we want to drive up the west coast and see the Cliffs Of Moher for sure, but, should we also visit Bunratty Castle and Folk park ? Is it more for children? Is it something for history/culture enthusiasts? We will be seeing a few other castles but we do love them :-)
If we stop to see Bunratty, and the cliffs we would probably need to overnight somewhere fairly close-- where would be a good place to stay? Our other option could be to drive from Dingle Pennisula to Galway in one day and check out Galway area for a day. Thoughts?

The cliffs of Moher will take 2 hours at the most, less if it is cold & windy. I enjoyed the folk park & Bunratty Castle when there last May but the best experience we had was getting tickets to the Buratty Medieval banquet in the evening, this is excellent, the vocal singing was outstanding and the food was very good. We drove from Dingle to Bunratty, many good B&B's in the area, spent the day then drove to cliffs next morning, spent 1.5 hours then drove north to Cong and stayed at Ashford Castle for 3 days. Google Ashford Castle because it was the highlight of our trip to Ireland, we took the Falconry Class and it was something my wife and I will never forget! I love Ireland!!

The city of Limerick is very close to Bunratty. The park is a collection of buildings resembling a village from 19th century Ireland. Do go to the banquet if you can. The castle is fairly small and intact, so you can see what a real castle was like. I think most children would love Bunratty. Spend a day lodged in Limerick; visit the castle and park in the daytime, then return for the banquet in the evening. Depending on the age of the children, they might enjoy the banquet, too.

It's been a few years since I was there, but at that time there was frequent public bus service to the castle.

My wife and I enjoyed the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. If anything, in my humble opinion, in might be something the adults would have more of an appreciation for than the kids. As others mentioned, the Folk Park is a recreation of what a typical early 1800's Irish village might have looked like and yes, it's an educational experience for adults and the children.
The Bunratty Castle is an authentic castle experience.....I'd suggest taking the tour as opposed to touring it on your own. As for lodging, the Bunratty Castle Hotel is right across the street from the castle and is situated in a small strip center with shops and a couple of Pub/ cafes. Very handy. We stayed at the Dromoland (it's five or ten minutes from Bunratty Castle) which is a former castle turned into a five star hotel. I recommend it highly....the concierge there is very helpful. Either lodging choice is 15 minutes tops from Shannon airport if you're flying out of Shannon. In the evening we opted for the Irish Night at the Corn Barn....it's traditional Irish song and dance it was a hoot and very informal. The Medieval Banquet is the option probably preferred by most and we'll be sure and do that one next trip. Durty Nelley's Pub sits just outside the castle grounds and is a historic building and experience in itself. We had lunch there and recommend it.
Ennis is probably 45 minutes from the Cliffs (and maybe 15 to 20 minutes from Bunratty) and I agree with an earlier post that two hours is more than enough time to experience the Cliffs. We stayed at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis. It's a historic building which was originally a manor house ( I think going back to 1750 or so) and expanded/converted years after into a hotel. Charles Lindbergh stayed there on a business trip to Ireland. The Poets Corner Bar within the Old Ground Hotel is easily the best pub experience we had in Ireland. Outstanding food and met some wonderful locals there.....very friendly and welcoming. BTW, we hired a driver to take us over to the Cliffs and the Burren and, in retrospect, consider it one of our better decisions of the trip.....our driver was very knowledgeable of the history of the area and we learned some fascinating things we'd never have known otherwise.....and....I got to see some gorgeous Irish landscape as opposed to keeping an eye on the road.
An earlier poster suggested a stay at Ashford Castle in Cong. If you're not aware, most of the outdoor scenes from "The Quiet Man" with John Wayne; Maureen O'Hara and Ward Bond were filmed in Cong and on the grounds of Ashford Castle in the summer of 1952. There is a "Quiet Man" museum in Cong and they offer tours of various film locations within the village as well as souvenirs. I don't recall exactly but seems like the drive from Ennis to Cong was about two hours....much of the drive was on freeway but a substantial portion of it took you along the narrow/dreaded "L" roads....just so you know in advance. Ashford Castle is a world-class hotel experience, (Pierce Brosnan and other celebrities have had their weddings there) but if you prefer something more economical there are quite a few B&B's in and around Cong. If you do visit Cong, easily the best Traditional Irish Stew we had on our trip last summer was at the Danaghers Daughter cafe just across the street from Cohan's Bar, which looks today exactly as it did in the movie.
Hope you guys have a great trip and that you'll come back afterwards and share your experience with us.
