This will be my second visit to Ireland and my husband's first. We're flying into Dublin on Oct. 3rd. The initial plan was to spend the first two days in Dublin and then take the train up to Belfast and stay there for two days and then head back down to Dublin so that we can make our way out to Galway. I've also considered just heading straight to Belfast from the airport via bus; but, our flight lands at 11:40 a.m. and I don't want to be overly ambitious considering this ride with be three hours. Any suggestions on how to stage this better? We're in the country until the 11th.
Well, since you're not going to be able to check into your hotel until 4PM or thereabouts anyway, why not kill the time by taking the train up to Belfast, thereby saving yourself what amounts to an extra day of travel?
I'd probably choose to go on to Belfast, just to eliminate changing hotels.
I think the trip to Belfast after the long flight would be perfect. Also a great excuse to nap after the long exhausting flight.
It looks like Belfast is the winner! Thank you everyone for your input. We will spend our last few days in Dublin.
In Belfast go see the Titanic exhibition. May need to pre book
You could also just make it a day trip up to Belfast. The train ride is only 2 hours and I've done this several times. You can book a "black taxi" to give you a guided tour of the highlights of Belfast.
