Short trips from Dingle

I will be in Dingle for three weeks. Any suggestions for a short trip from my Dingle base? Two or three nights in a hotel somewhere?

Excellent!

Will you have a car? What do you like to do??? Surf? Hike? History? Food? Sail? Give us a few hints so we all can help YOU!

You may want to know (car or not) there's a new bus called Local Link that has routes to Dingle, Portmagee and more..... not part of BusEireanne

We will have a car. Seeing historical sights and dining. Should we take the train to Normandy? (if that's even possible) Travel to Amsterdam? Anywhere else that you recommend?

Thank you for the information on the new bus!

My friend moved to Dingle a year ago and we would like to see some of the surrounding countries and cities. We've been to Dublin but not out of Ireland.

Do you not wish to explore Co. Kerry itself? You mention wanting to visit other countries but I'm presuming you know Dingle is on a peninsula in a rural part of the country so your flight options are restricted to whatever is available from Kerry Airport unless you head much further to Cork or Shannon. What guidebooks have you looked at so far?

there are some interesting flights from Kerry Airport (near Killarney) but going to Normandy or something like that seems extreme! You could spend 3 weeks in the area exploring Dingle, Iveragh and Beara peninsulas and still not see it all!

As for history, you can follow the monks trail - the monks that lived on Skellig Michael were not just there, and there's amazing history of their wanderings. Daniel O'Connell lived in Derrynane (born in Cahersiveen) and that has much history to explore... If you're here in ireland in summer the eating will be fantastic! Winter time quite a few close or shorten their menus. A good foodie experience is a seaweed walk with Atlantic Irish Seaweed - they serve lunch with seaweed foods!

Another option a bit farther would be along the Clare coastline. Beautiful scenery and better to stay in than to drive through!
