Does anyone have recommendations for transportation from Shannon Airport to Ennis? Another option I am considering is, transportation from Shannon airport to the Cliffs of Moher, and then on to our hotel in Ennis. Is the second option too much for folks just arriving from the USA?

That was our initial route. We took Bus Erin which can easily handle a group of 12. They pick up at Shannon Airport and head straight to Ennis. It's only about a 20-25 minute ride. You then can either stay in Ennis or make the easy change to another bus to Doolin....another 35-40 minutes further on. The bus driver normally has a stop at the youth hostel drop but if you ask him he can drop you at the port if your taking the Cliffs of Moher cruise (cheap and a ton of fun before going to the top). From either stop you can take the Paddywagon shuttle to the Cliffs of Moher....that too can accommodate 12 but I'd call first.
I'm sure there are other shuttles you can hire for a group.....but Bus Erin was simple, comfortable and easy for us who are quite easily flustered.
As for going from Shannon up to the Cliffs of Moher then back to Ennis it could be done with an early in the day start. It would be fairly hurried and a bit frantic for a first day but it's more if you want to do it. Relaxing, fun and super easy accclimation would be to just go to Ennis and explore that lovely town and then the next day a leisurely trip to Doolin and The Cliffs....consider the cruise.....and have non hurried time for exploration. But it's really what you want out of the trip and your itinerary. Less is always more in Ireland. The interactions with the amazing people is the real star of the trip - leave plenty of time for that.
Anyway Bus Erin is easy, inexpensive and can accommodate the numbers. Private shuttle hired would be pricey but even easier....or there are tours you can sign up with.. Others may have much better ideas but it worked GREAT for us. Have a great trip.
