Flying into Shannon to get to Ennis for 7 day tour. Is Shannon worth spending a night or two?

I've flown into Shannon Airport four times. I never stopped in the eponymous town in part because no guidebook on Ireland I have read -- Rick Steves, Lonely Plant, Let's Go -- has said it's worth stopping to see.
Ennis is definitely worth seeing. It and Kilkenny are the two best medieval Irish towns I have seen. It's a lovely town.

I'll second the vote for Ennis. I too love it there. I liked it so much, I named my dog, Ennis!
