We are planning for 2 weeks of self drive in Southern Ireland this June! Not sure for the towns to stay during our trip!
We will be flying to Dublin and planning for a southern loop and flying back home from Dublin. We are not [lanning for Northern Ireland.
Any suggestions?

I am heading that way on a repositioning cruise April 15. I am heading to County Kerry and the Dingle peninsula about 225 miles southwest of Dublin. There are a number of tourist driving loops in the area. We are going to be staying outside of Waterville where a bunch of fine B&Bs are located.
If you read the postings on the Ireland section form the last few weeks, you will find good advice.
This is what we did :
fly into Dublin: night 1, 2 and 3 Dublin
Day 4 pick up car at Dublin airport and drive to Kilkenny- sleep Kilkenny ( Kilkenny castle, walk medieval mile)
Day 5 leave Kilkenny stop at Dunmore caves, go through Cork stop at Blarney stone. Make way to Killarney
Day/night 6 and 7 Killarney ( killarney national park, Muckorss house and farms, Kissane sheep herding demonstration)
Day 8 leave Killarney to drive Ring of Kerry and make way to Dingle
Day/night 8 and 9 Dingle
Day 10 leave Dingle by way of Bunratty Castle and Cliffs of Moher
Day night 10 and 11 Galway
Leave Galway to go through Connamera and stop at Kylemore Abbey
Night 12 Cong
make way back to Dublin and spend night before flight back home

I would do the southern loop of the island, Cork and Kerry and then add county Clare, and maybe county Galway.
Great towns to stay in include Kinsale, Killarney, Dingle, Clifden. If you ask more specific questions, you will get better answers. Also, search this forum!
if you do the ring of Kerry and stay in the Kenmare area I would suggest a day touring the Beara Peninsula, traffic is much lighter, sites are awesome and there are some cool little towns with good food on that "ring" tour...its worth a look for a laid back day of driving and lookin!
