My husband and I will be flying into Dublin, (in Late May)spending 2 nights there, then picking up a rent car for the remainder of our trip, with the first night stop in Kinsale. Knowing we can't see everything from Dublin to Kinsale in one day's drive, which route would you recommend to enjoy the scenery and countryside. Since we have 2 nights in Kinsale we don't need to hurry our drive, but are debating whether a stop at Powerscourt or Glendalough along with a lunch stop in Kilkenny is doable? I don't think we have time to see Rock of Cashel on this trip as it is not our goal to spend every minute in the car--most of our trip is on the west coast and we have slower days ahead. Dublin to Kinsale is by far our longest day. Thoughts? Thank you!
Lunch in Kinsale is agood idea. The scenery on the east coast doesn't compare to the west coast so get yourselves to delightful Kinsale and enjoy this charming town.
You can include a morning in Glendalough if you wish.
Take the N11 towards Kilmacanougue and out to Glendalough via Roundwood. There is good spot for food at the Heathers in Laragh.
Then cross the Wicklow Gap and come out of the mountains at Hollywood and continue to Ballymore Eustace (my home village). There is an excellent restaurant there called the Ballymore Inn. I recommend taking lunch in either of these, before setting into longer part of the drive.
Continue from Ballymore Eustace to Naas and pick up the M7 motorwary in Naas. It is a straight road all the way down to Cork from there. Don't attempt lunch in Kilkenny. It is miles off your route.
