Hi....will be finishing our visit to Ireland and on to Scotland on Sunday June 26 - never been to Europe before. I've been told I should book Ryan Air? Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Booking with Ryanair and other "discount" airlines is often only cheapest when you book well in advance. The fare automatically goes up as seats are filled. At this late date be sure you check with Aer Lingus and British Airways as they may very well be cheaper.

I would steer clear of Ryan Air. Try not to get suckered in by their base price, when you add up all of their nickel and diming, other airlines are often a better deal with the added bonus of larger seats, complimentary refreshments, and not being sticklers with baggage rules.

nothing wrong with Ryan Air - extremely popular - just pay attention to the booking process - they expect you to follow it and don't indulge feckless passengers who think rules shouldn't apply to them

I would be booking that part of your trip fairly quickly. I agree, you may want to check the other airlines and compare pricing. I used Ryan air last year to fly from Dublin to England. It went smoothy but we did pay attention to the rules and baggage weight and had our boarding passes ready. I think now, they will allow boarding passes to be printer at the airport without a crazy price attached to it. Just check the details. I do know their customer services is behind the other carriers when it comes to rebooking or cancelled flights, But I would be OK with using them again. Its a very short flight from Dublin to Scotland.

When comparing costs, I would just assume that you will pay to check a bag on RyanAir, which will bump up the cost significantly.

In general though, pay close attention to any airline you compare prices with, baggage allowances in Europe are much smaller than in the US and they more strictly check (and charge you) for any overage.

That said, if you follow all the rules, RyanAir can be very economical and get you where you are going on time.

I use Ryanair , and am using them again in afew weeks.

I have no issue with the "nickel and diming"as pretty much all airlines charge for checked bags now and i dont usually pay for extra things like seat selection or meals , since either the flights are so short, or i bring my own better food. Intereuropeon flights are so short ( usually only 3-4 hours some much shorter) because the flights are so cheap. We are flying london to mykonos for 98 euros on easyjet, and from majorrca to dublin for only 103 euros and that includes a checked bag and seat selection( travelling with daughter and we want to seat together) on both flights!!!

The alternative is Aer Lingus regional, operated by Stobart Air.
