Has anyone done the Rural Pubs day trip tour out of Dublin? We have 3 days in Dublin, not sure if we should sacrifice time in Dublin for this tour. Thanks.
We attempted to find pubs out in the countryside a year ago, but were unsuccessful. Satellite television has had a big negative effect on the pub life as many people stay at home nights. Pubs are mostly 6-10 men in a restaurant bar watching soccer matches. They're more of sports bars than pubs in Ireland outside of the big cities. In Dublin, the pub close to where we were staying didn't get started until later than we wanted to stay up.
Hi,
We did this tour in May 2019, and it was wonderful. (My son and husband had also taken the tour in 2016 and loved it.) Shane, the tour owner, is great. We were taken to three well-known pubs up in the Wicklow mountains over Dublin. A couple of the pubs have amazing views, and they all had great music. You do not have to drink a lot to enjoy the tour. I think the question of whether or not to do it when you have only 3 days depends on how much you enjoy going to traditional pubs. I would choose the rural pub tour over many of the pubs in the Temple Bar area. The rural pub tours company has a couple of different tour options. For me, the 6 pub tour would have been too much. You could pick the 3 pub option and still have a lot of time to sightsee during the day. If you decide to skip the rural pub tour, another good pub option in Dublin is The Celt. We also enjoyed visiting The Brazenhead, the oldest pub in Dublin.
