Route

We are going in and out of Shannon on a 10 day trip. Please give me any thoughts about a route? These are the cities we will be staying in.
Galway, Aran Islands, Dingle, Kenmare, Kinsale
Do the trip the way it is here or start in Kinsale and come up?
Any suggestions. We will have our own car.

If great scenery is high on your list of priorities, then stick to the coastal roads as much as possible. That's not to discount the appeal - or sightseeing opportunities - of inland roads, however, as they too offer the same, though perhaps not in as much quantity. If you have a detailed map like Michelin's 1:400,000 scale, then you will be able to identify easily what the optimum routes are for you. And you may as well begin your trip from Galway, as proposed. Why delay the fun?!

On our first trip to Ireland, we landed in Shannon and drove directly to Galway. We were jetlagged, driving on the wrong side (of the road and the manual transmission car), and the traffic in Galway was daunting. Our first impression of Galway was not great. We got out into the countryside as quickly as possible. Once we acclimated to driving on the wrong side and rested up, we were good to go. Next trip, we hit Galway toward the end of our time in Ireland and fell in love with it. One of our favorite places now. So, you might want to take that into account and ease into the city if you're driving.
