Room reservations in Ireland

We will be traveling in Ireland for two weeks, from June 1-14. We are debating whether to book all rooms in advance or be more flexible and get rooms as available while there. We have done this successfully on trips to Europe in the past and I'm interested in whether this method would work in Ireland during the time we will be there. Thanks.

Hi Terry,
We are traveling to Ireland June 10-17. I have had trouble finding places available in the areas we wanted to visit. Killarney's best B&B's were booked as well as Castles we wanted to stay in.
I wanted to book the G hotel in Galway , but is was not available so we booked at Jury's as it was closer to restaurants, etc.

We now always book ahead as I hate wasting time going from hotel to hotel to find one that has vacancy...

It may depend on how many people are in your party and how flexible you are -- as in, you don't mind getting stuck with a very expensive room because all the value-priced options in the area are taken, or you don't mind having to drive an extra hour after dinner because there are no available rooms in the immediate area, or you don't mind staying in a decidedly un-touristy part of town.

If you have a computer with you, then you have an additional tool that we didn't have in the old days. You also might book a day or two ahead, when you're more sure of your plans, instead of waiting until you actually arrive in the town. I assume you'll be driving, which helps you reach more options.
