Rock of cashel, Cobh and kinsale

We are thinking of leaving Kilkenny at 8:30am and than driving to Rock of Cashel and Hore abbey, from there go to Cobh for a short visit, take a ferry across and go to Kinsale and stay overnight there. Is this drive doable in one day? Thanks.

The Rock of Cashel can be seen in an hour to hour & half easily. To be honest we were not overly impressed with the Rock of Cashel because it is mostly piles of ruble, but the views over the surrounding countryside is quite beautiful. You should be able to do this trip without much difficulty.

Yes, your proposed itinerary is easily done at a relaxed pace in a day so you can take your time.
Be aware that the Passage West ferry is first come, first served. It runs constantly between the two sides of the estuary and the trip across only takes a few minutes, so don't worry about missing the boat if you find yourselves in a queue at the dock - there will be another one arriving shortly.

No. Just drive up, join the queue, and pay as you enter.

You might want to verify if you’re allowed to take your rental car on a ferry. I have cars booked in Ireland and Scotland and one of them doesn’t allow it. I can’t remember which one.

Ya the website says vehicles allowed but will try to find out for sure. Thanks for pointing that out. All your replies really make things easier in planning.

Cobh can take a couple of hours or at least it did for us and have been there several times and it still takes some time especially if the weather cooperates. Be sure to see the statue of Annie Moore on the waterfront (she left for America from there and was the first immigrant to land at Ellis Island) and the one commentating the Lusitania. Both rich in the history of Cobh. There is a Titanic Museum at the waterfront but not sure if it is still open but that is worth the time. The view from the Cathedral is beautiful and you can just imagine those ships in the harbor.

Thanks Gail for all your suggestions. Hoping that we make it in ahead of time to Cobh so we can do some of the things you suggested.
