Have RS map for Ireland but it is not clear what Road we would take from National Stud Farm over to Glendalough. Have ordered the Michelin map but would like to know if anyone has done this and what the time frame is for the drive. Also
any suggestions on where to stay the night in this region would be appreciated.
hi, Shelley, I've been to the national stud farm twice (on bus tours).....so I really cant help you on driving directions.....just want to alert you to a "gem" that I didn't even know about on my first tour.....discovered it on research before the second trip, saint Fiachras garden references 6th century Irish life.....gorgeous and peaceful

Hi Shelley
I've never driven the first part of the roads you need, but have driven generally in Ireland and through the Wicklow Gap. Consulting my good 'ol All Ireland Road Atlas, you need to go east from the Stud to get to Glendalough. The most direct route is a number of minor and 'R' roads. In simple terms, following signs to the following towns/villages will get you there:
From the Stud drive into Kildare town and pick up the R413 signposted Kilcullen. Follow R413 then R411 to Hollywood (yup - Hollywood!) then follow R756 via Granabeg to Glendalough. The road from Hollywood will take you up and over the Wicklow Mountains, and drop you down into Glendalough via the 'Wicklow Gap', passing the Wicklow Mountains National Park. It is a beautiful drive (hills / moorland/woods/river), and not too difficult (the 'mountains' rise to about 820 meter only). I'd estimate about an hour's driving or so.
